Basic Info: Full name is Aviva Portia Kirby, Ashkenazi Jewish, 10 years old, star sign is Sagittarius, cis girl with no label for orientation as she’s like ten and not particularly fussed about that (she/her pronouns), Life Elemental Specialist, character motif is fairies.
Family: Aviva’s family consists of her father Joshua, mother Ruth and older brother George. Joshua works an office job while Ruth is a homemaker, and George is sixteen and in high school. Aviva loves her family to bits and pieces, especially her older brother George who is her biggest hero—the two of them have been as close as close could be since she was born, so close that when George was whisked away to Skylands, Aviva made it her mission to find him. While she was overjoyed to be with him and go on adventures with him and his friends, George refused to entertain the idea, not wanting his beloved sister to get seriously hurt, and his conflicted feelings over her entering the field have driven a bit of a wedge between the siblings.
Personality: Aviva is plucky and curious as any child her age would be, always looking for fun new things and sticking her nose into whatever she can. She’s a cheerful young girl who always has a smile on her face, and finds everything around her exciting and fun. As she aspires to be just like her big brother George, she makes a point of treating everything and everyone around her with care, respect and kindness just as he does, and is always the first to want to step in and help.
Being young, however, Aviva has a very simple and naïve view of the world around her, and greatly overestimates her own abilities due to her youthful naivety. She’s quick to protest whenever she’s told to stay behind, and gets upset when it’s brought up that she lacks the experience and strength others have. Her stubbornness combined with her curious nature means that she frequently gets herself into troublesome situations that the others have to fish her out of. But, they can’t stay mad at her for long—she is only a child, after all.
Life on Earth: From the moment she had been born, Aviva and her older brother George were inseparable. He was always there by her side, whether he was helping his parents take care of her, playing with her, or cheering her up and calming her down when she was upset, and none of this changed as she got older. George was the one to take her to and from school and help her with her homework when she got frustrated, and when that was done they’re play and read together and have fun when they were done. No matter how busy he was, George always found time for his sister.
And Aviva loved her older brother right back—to her, George was her hero, and she wanted nothing more than to be just like him. She always tried to act in ways he would and copied whatever he did. To them, they were each other’s best friends, and neither of them would change it for the world. But, the world has a funny way of turning, and little did they know that both their lives would be uprooted in a way they never imagined. One day, as George was taking Aviva home from school, a mysterious portal opened before them, sucking in everything around with amazing ferocity! George immediately went to protect Aviva, and in the process he was sucked into the portal, with Aviva only able to watch as he was whisked away before her eyes. Aviva ran home in tears, trying her best to explain to her parents what had happened, but neither of them believed her. Even though she swore that was what had happened, her parents continually insisted that he must have been kidnapped and acted according to that, even though it was fruitless—George wasn’t at all on this Earth anymore, he may not have even been in this universe anymore! Though she continually explained the truth, nobody believed her, not even as more were found to have disappeared in similar manners, even one of her own classmates.
Arriving in Skylands and Life There: Aviva was heartbroken, despondent even! Her big brother was taken away to who knows where, and none of the grown-ups believed her no matter what! She just wanted him to come back no matter what, but there was nothing she could do—she couldn’t just make portals appear out of thin air or run off to look for another one! As more time passed and search efforts for him began to trail off, Aviva walked on the same route George would always walk her to school on, wishing to help her brother come home no matter what... Then, a portal opened before her, one that she could hear his voice from!
Without even hesitating, Aviva jumped inside and landed in the heart of a battle between George, a few of the Skylanders and a terrifying monster—and George’s team was on the losing team. Enraged by seeing her brother in pain, Aviva raced for the monster without even hesitating, wanting nothing more than to protect him. And in that moment the natural world heard her cries, the trees and plants all beating down on the monster with such ferocity that its attacks were stopped just in time for help to arrive! With the monster beaten, Aviva and George arrived back at home base together, where Aviva learned that she was a portal master just like her older brother! And more than that, her tender wish to help her beloved older brother resonated with the natural world, gifting her with its blessing—not only could she call upon its power in battle, but she could use it to heal the ailments of her teammates as well! So, despite George’s objections, Aviva began training as a portal master with the others. Though, she’s not experienced enough to tackle the big stuff yet, despite her continued insistence that she’s just as ready as the others are.
Powers: Aviva’s powers are more defensive in nature (pun intended) than offensive. Her main skill allows her to call upon the natural world’s blessings in order to heal whatever afflicts her allies—injuries, poisons, curses, all of them disappear with a single word. However, she’s no slouch in the offensive department either, being able to call upon her plants to damage her opponents through the sheer, raw power of nature. And by that, she means “smashing them and beating down on them until they surrender,” of course.
Relationships:
George: George, as mentioned above, is Aviva’s older brother and her biggest inspiration in life. She’s been practically attached to his hip since she was young, and wants nothing more than to be just like him—and he, in turn, loves his little sister dearly and would do anything to protect her. However, her awakening as a portal master and training alongside the others has driven a rift between the two once close siblings. George doesn’t want his younger sister to be put in harm’s way and insists that she sticks to the sidelines, but Aviva wants nothing more than to prove that she’s just as capable as he is and doesn’t understand why he’s so hesitant about this. After all, she’s a portal master just like he is, and she wants to help in the same way he does, too! But, they can’t really see eye-to-eye on the issue just yet, so they just bicker it out.
Oscar: Back on Earth, the two of them lived in the same town and went to the same elementary school, but they had never really talked much or anything like that until they both came to Skylands. She finds a bit more kinship and understanding with him due to them being closer in age, and he doesn’t mind her tagging along on missions or nags her as much as the others do... Even if her curiosity does get them into a lot of trouble. Oscar, for his part, thinks Aviva is a bit too reckless for her own good sometimes, but he finds it surprisingly fun.
The other Portal Masters: Aviva mainly regards the other portal masters as just being George’s friends, and isn’t super close to them. They, for their part, regard her as their honorary little sister due to her being George’s sister and are accordingly protective of her—much to her frustration, as she wishes they’d just treat her like part of the team.
Eon: Thinks of Eon as little more than a funny grandpa despite the respect and reverence his presence usually brings, and is not entirely inclined to take him seriously because of that. While Eon finds her shenanigans a bit amusing and a her presence one that brings some well-needed optimism to the group, he still wishes she’d stay out of trouble.
The Skylanders: Aviva just kind of regards them as George’s buddies, much like with the portal masters, and doesn’t really find herself particularly close to any of them. However, Tree Rex is a bit of an exception—he has a bit of a soft spot for kids, and Aviva thinks of him as a cool and fun tree dude. In fact, he’s one of the few people Aviva will listen to. She also tends to get into her fair share of shenanigans with some of the youngest or more mischief-inclined of the Skylanders, particularly the Minis, Wrecking Ball, Food Fight and Hot Dog.
Trivia and Voiceclaims:
- Aviva is technically less of an oc and moreso a fan interpretation of a lesser-known canon character—in this case, George’s younger sister from his character bio, though I’ve fleshed her out so much she might as well be my oc.
- The concept for this was inspired by a theory I had that she was going to become a playable portal master down the line, and designed an outfit for her accordingly.
- Her skill icon was reused from one of Tuff Luck’s old skill icons.
